Hostel
The Hostel of the Institute, the Koroneos building, is located to the north of the city centre, in the Gyzi district. The building was donated in 1996 by Professor Nikolaos G. Koroneos, in memory of his father, and as a sign of his admiration for the Finnish nation. The building, which was originally designed by Mr. Koroneos himself, was inaugurated as a hostel in February 1999, following a thorough renovation.The six-storey building has 13 fully-furnished apartments of different sizes that can be rented by the scholars and students. There is also an artists’ studio flat, and an apartment rented by the Union of Finnish Writers. The hostel also provides a laundry, a seminar room and a lounge with a small library and a television. In addition a wireless Internet connection is at the tenants' disposal.
The secretary of the hostel is Leena Katsantoni, and the supervisor/caretaker Joakim Stavropoulos. The office of the hostel is open from 9:00 to 14:00, Tuesday - Friday. On Mondays the office is open between 14:00 and 19:00. For enquiries, contact the office directly.
The Finnish Institute is located in Zitrou 16, in Makriyanni. The closest Metro station is Akropoli on Mitsaion Street. Bus line 230 has stops at Hatzichristou and Petmeza streets. The Hostel is located at Ioannou Soutsou 25, in Gyzi. The closest bus stops for line 230 can be found in Ippokratous, Harilaou Trikoupi and Alexandras Streets.
