Mainalian Run in Arcadia
The third Mainalian Run will be organised on Sunday 17 October in Arcadia. The track is 15 kilometers in length and will circle round the ancient Mount Mainalos through four villages. In antiquity, the Mainalian games were held on a stadium located at the Mount Mainalos, but it has only been through the Finnish-led archaeological excavations that it has been possible to identify the modern mount Agios Elias as the ancient Mainalos. The Mainalian Run strives to reawaken the memory of the ancient games in the minds of locals and visitors alike, as well as bringing visibility not only to the Finnish Institute’s excavations in the area, but also to the long-lost sacred locale.
